The Reds released LHP Tommy Milone.
The Pirates released C Joe Hudson.
The Mets sent 3B Brandon Drury outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
The Nationals sent RHP Steven Fuentes and LHP Alberto Baldonadooutright to Triple-A Rochester.
The Phillies made the hiring of Kevin Long as the team’s new hitting coach official.
Injuries/Chatter
The White Sox are expected to pick up RHP Craig Kimbrel’s $16 million option for next season, per Bob Nightengale. The team plans to trade him, says Nightengale. Kimbrel struggled mightily after being traded from the Cubs to the White Sox. His ERA jumped from 0.49 on the north side to 5.09 on the south side.
LHP Hyeon-jong Yang is expected to return to Korea and join the Kai Tigers of the KBO. Yang spent 2021 with the Rangers, where he posted a 5.60 ERA over 35.1 IP.
RHP David Hess announced that he has a cancerous germ cell tumor on his chest. Hess spent last season in Miami and Tampa Bay.
The Padres looked into trade for 1B Anthony Rizzo at the trade deadline, reports Dennis Lin. Rizzo ended up in NY with the Yankees.
Rob Manfred on the future of baseball in Oakland: “We've had to open up the opportunity to explore other locations. We’re not sure we see a path to success in terms of getting something built in Oakland.”
