The Braves signed RHP Jesse Chavez and LHP Dylan Lee to minor league contracts.
A’s OF Stephen Piscotty was activated from the paternity list. OF Ka’ai Tom was designated for assignment.
Giants moves: recalled LHP Sam Selman and RHP Trevor Gott from the team’s alternate site; optioned C Chadwick Tromp and OF Steven Duggar to the alternate site.
The Marlins re-signed RHP Preston Guilmet to a minor league contract.
The Nationals signed OF Daniel Palka to a minor league contract.
The Phillies placed five coaches and three players on the COVID protocol list. The players include LHP Matt Moore, SS Ronald Torreyes, and LHP Jose Alvarado. So far no game postponements. The team recalled LHP Cristopher Sanchez, SS Nick Maton, and RHP Damon Jones from the alternate site.
Injuries/Chatter
OF Nick Castellanos had his appeal of his two-game suspension denied by MLB, per Jeff Passan. The MLB upheld the suspension due to “aggressive actions and for instigating a benches-clearing incident.” Weak.
Free-agent LHP Cole Hamels continues to work out everyday but does not have a timetable for a showcase for interested teams yet, per Jon Heyman.
Dodgers OF Mookie Betts was hit in the forearm by a pitch last night and will be evaluated today.
From Chandler Rome: 3B Alex Bregman, OF Yordan Alvarez, C Martín Maldonado and INF Robel García are tentatively scheduled to rejoin the Astros in Colorado today. They had been out due to health and safety protocols.
Marlins OF Starling Marte had an MRI yesterday that revealed a non-displaced fracture in his rib, per the Marlins. He will be re-evaluated in 5-7 days.
Padres RHP Dinelson Lamet (elbow) will make his season debut on Wednesday.
Angels RHP Shohei Ohtani will be limited to around 75 pitches in today’s game against the Rangers due to a blister.
Mariners OF Kyle Lewis will make his season debut tonight, per manager Scott Servais.
Brewers SS Luis Urias left last night’s game with a cramp in his right calf.
Mariners 2B Ty France was pulled from last night’s game after being hit by a pitch in the forearm. He will likely get x-rays as a precaution, relays Ryan Divish.
Brewers updates from manager Craig Counsell: 2B Kolten Wong will be activated for the Cubs’ series this weekend; OF Lorenzo Cain (quad) is not doing baseball activities yet and will likely be on the IL longer than 10 days.
Astros RHP Lance McCullers Jr. will miss his next schedule start due to a non-COVID illness.
