Morning Update - 2/26/2021
Riley Torkelson adds to the list of weird baseball injuries, the Blue Jays pick up another potential starting pitcher, & more.
Good morning. Only TWO days until actual games! The news has been really slow this week, but that is sure to change once we’re finally playing some baseball.
It’s February 26th, 2021 and here’s everything that happened in the world of baseball from 5:00 PM EST yesterday to 9:00 AM EST today.
The Most Important Thing

Baseball players are well-known for having unusual injuries keep the off the field. Add Detroit top prospect Spencer Torkelson to that list.
From Chris McKosky’s piece:
“According to two sources familiar with the incident, Torkelson was making dinner at a house he shares with Jake Rogers and Riley Greene. They didn't have a can opener in the house so he tried to improvise with a wine opener that had a serrated, half-inch knife on the other end.
The knife folded up on him, making a half-inch cut in the index finger. He took three stitches to close the wound. No muscle or tendons were affected.”
Probably not the smartest idea, but we’ve all made makeshift can-openers at one point or another, right?
The good thing is it’s a very mild injury, and he’ll be back in a few days. It doesn’t come close to ranking near the top of some of baseball’s weirdest injuries.
Everything Else
LHP Tommy Milone will sign a minor league deal with a spring training invite with the Blue Jays, per Mark Feinsand. Milone began last season in Baltimore before being traded to the Braves. He posted a 6.69 ERA in 9 starts.
